In any particular vehicle class there are going to be a number of vehicle options from different manufacturers that will be very similar or almost identical. A lot of it comes down to preference on look or even company. Or in some cases it simply comes down to priorities. Say for example valuing a lower sticker price over better fuel economy or cargo space. Knowing that personal preference plays a big part in the decision, we will still attempt to compare the Hyundai Tucson and the Mitsubishi Outlander over a few different categories.
Both vehicles have very similar engine set ups. They both have 4 cylinder 2.0L engines and the fuel economy is basically the same with a slight edge for the Outlander. However, the biggest difference in this category is that the Tucson has 16 more horsepower than the Outlander and also comes with a 6 speed automatic transmission versus the 5 speed manual transmission of the Outlander. Overall the specifications are very similar so the Tucson really only gets a slight edge for the extra horsepower and gear.
Overall both the Tucson and Outlander come with all the standard technological features you would expect from an SUV. They are Bluetooth capable, have MP3 streaming, radio, USB features, and speed sensitive volume. Neither really outshines the other in the accessories department. When it comes to comfort though, the interior of the Tucson is significantly more comfortable both in terms of the seats themselves as well as the smoothness and silence of the ride. The Tucson also features an expanded door opening making it easier to get in and out of the vehicle. In terms of interior comfort and use of space in both front and rear seats, the Tucson does a fantastic job.
This is once again where personal preference comes into play, but the newly redesigned Tucson features sleek looking front headlights beside a classy looking hexagonal front grill. The lines and surfaces of the Tucson are very streamlined giving it a sporty yet classy look. The Outlander features more a traditional SUV look and is still very strong in design, but isn’t quite as sophisticated looking as the Tucson.
The similarities between these 2 vehicles emphasize the importance of the doing research before purchasing any vehicle. The Tucson has a great warranty program and roadside assistance, but is slightly more expensive on the initial sticker price. With Hyundai’s redesign of the Tucson they certainly seem to be gathering a lot of attention among SUV drivers.
